In this capstone unit students consolidate their training by investigating a significant issue in their specialisation through undertaking a research project. Students will strengthen their evidence-based research capabilities by participating in a number of key phases and activities of an evidence-based research project to inform practice. Students will critically review the literature, including academic, policy and/or practice evidence, collecting, analysing, interpreting and disseminating findings in the form of a report or journal article for publication.

Learning outcomes

 

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Critically formulate, evaluate and rationalise the need to investigate a significant practice issue;
  2. Conceptually map and interrogate the evidence-base of a chosen practice issue;
  3. Demonstrate skills in analysing, interpreting and disseminating research findings from a comprehensive critical literature review; and
  4. Deliberate on the implications of findings for practice, professional development and future research.

 

Assessment

 

Assignment: Argument - Rationale for proposed comprehensive critical literature review topic (500 words) - 10%

Presentation: Detailed comprehensive critical literature review protocol proposal (5 mins/1500-word equivalent) - 30%

Report: Comprehensive critical literature review report or journal article (3000 words) – 60%
