In this unit pre-service teachers orientate themselves to the teaching profession. Pre-service teachers will develop in-depth knowledge of schooling and teaching within the context of professional guidelines and ethical codes of conduct. Pre-service teachers explore the philosophy and possibilities of education including student learning. In addition, they investigate effective classroom management and innovative curriculum design and lesson planning.

Learning outcomes

 

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Investigate educational teaching and learning practices that contribute to positive student behaviour and learning.
  2. Articulate aspects of student development including their physical, social and intellectual needs.
  3. Engage and communicate their knowledge, understanding, and application of effective lesson plans and learning sequences.
  4. Demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of diverse theoretical paradigms, professional guidelines, and ethical codes of conduct.
  5. Understand the relevant legislative, administrative and organisational policies and processes required for teachers according to school stage.
  6. Use Curriculum, assessment and reporting knowledge to design learning sequences and lesson plans
